There is no easy answer when it comes to deciding whether knitting or crochet is easier to teach a child or beginner. Both crafts have their own set of unique skills and techniques that need to be mastered in order to create finished projects.
With knitting, the most basic skill you need to learn is how to cast on stitches. This involves using a knitting needle to place loops of yarn around the knitting needle, creating the foundation for your knitting project. Then, you will need to learn how to knit stitches by alternately wrapping the yarn around the knitting needle in a left-to-right motion and pulling it through the loop on the knitting needle.
Crochet, on the other hand, starts with creating a chain stitch. This is done by placing a loop of yarn around the crochet hook and pulling it through the loop on the hook. Then, you will need to learn how to work into the chains, which is done by inserting the crochet hook into the top of the chain stitch and pulling up a loop of yarn. From there, you can start crocheting in rounds or rows, depending on the pattern you are following.
In the end, it really comes down to personal preference when it comes to deciding which craft is easier to teach a child or beginner. Some people may find knitting easier to learn because it is a more linear process, while others may prefer crochet because it is more versatile and can be used to create a wider variety of projects. Ultimately, it is up to the individual to decide which craft they would like to learn.

With knitting, all you have to do is wrap the yarn around the needle once and pull it through the loop on the other end of the needle – it’s very simple and easy to understand.
Crochet is a little more complicated because you have to wrap the yarn around your hook multiple times before pulling it through the loop, which can be confusing for beginners. However, with a little practice, anyone can learn how to crochet!
